Featured Campaign: Duolingo x Squid Game

Duolingo x Squid Game is the cultural campaign brands should be taking notes from.

When Season 1 of Squid Game dropped, Duolingo reported a 40% surge in Korean learners. For Season 2, they leaned all the way in.

From Duo the Owl dressed as a Pink Guard to TikTok filters for Red Light and Green Light, every detail of this campaign blends Duolingo’s humour with Squid Game’s intensity.

The campaign also added over 40 phrases inspired by the show to their Korean course and plastered LA and NYC with billboards that warned, "Learn Korean to stay safe."

Why this worked:

1️⃣ They created multiple paths for engagement

2️⃣ They tapped into existing behaviour

3️⃣ They matched the show’s tone

This is how brands win. They stop chasing trends and instead become part of the culture.
